Purple Day for Epilepsy Awareness

March 26, 2025 – (All Day Event)

A day to celebrate epilepsy awareness and the color of epilepsy – purple! – on March 26th.

DETAILS: Purple Day for Epilepsy Awareness – #PurpleDay – is an international grassroots effort dedicated to increasing awareness about epilepsy worldwide. Held annually on March 26th, people in countries around the world are invited to wear purple and host events in support of epilepsy awareness. Last year, people spanning more than 85 countries on all continents participated in Purple Day.

HISTORY: In 2008, a young Canadian named Cassidy Megan created the idea of Purple Day, motivated by her own struggles with epilepsy. Cassidy’s goal was to get people talking about epilepsy in an effort to dispel myths and inform those with seizures that they are not alone. The Epilepsy Association of The Maritimes soon came on board to help develop Cassidy’s idea, which is now known as Purple Day. In 2009, Cassidy Megan and the Epilepsy Association of The Maritimes joined forces with The Anita Kaufmann Foundation to launch Purple Day internationally. As the global sponsors of Purple Day, Cassidy Megan, The Epilepsy Association of The Maritimes and The Anita Kaufmann Foundation are committed to partnering with individuals and organizations around the world to promote epilepsy awareness.
