Team Danny Did in the Magellan Chicago Half Marathon & 10K
Many thanks to Team Danny Did for braving the elements on Sunday to represent Danny and our mission to prevent deaths caused by seizures.  We enjoyed the chance to visit with old friends and to met new ones as well. It was fitting that so hearty and dedicated of a group was challenged to battle wind, rain, and even waves to raise awareness for the DDF. More than once we heard “nothing was going to keep me home today: this is for Danny.”  Team Danny Did is an important part of our cause and will continue to advocate for epilepsy and SUDEP awareness for a long time to come. The efforts of Team Danny Did make us a stronger and more capable foundation. Thanks and let’s get ready for the marathon!

2nd Annual Danny Did Love Buzz Cuts
Thanks to Julie Fowler Kelley, Anne Mannix, and the wonderful staff at ‘Do or Dye Hair Salon on the North Side (6005 N. Nina Ave.) and to the great staff at Fantastic Sam’s on the South Side (9548 W. 147th, Orland Park) for hosting the 2nd Annual Danny Did Love Buzz Cuts! Hundreds of boys and men received Danny’s favorite cut as they got ready for summer and gave a nod of their heads to a little boy who knew how to live his life in style. The girls and the ladies got into the game as well this year as they sported purple hair extensions representative of the color of Epilepsy awareness. The weather was great and entire baseball and softball teams showed up for buzz cuts and extensions in support of the DDF. It was Danny’s kind of day. Thanks too to another new Buzz Cut location this year: Shabby Shek in Tunkhannock, Pennsylvania!

War On the Shore to Benefit Danny Did
Over 800 high school hoops fans enjoyed an incredible day of competition at Loyola Academy’s 1st Annual War on the Shore. The event matched three premier basketball programs from the city of Chicago with top programs from Chicago’s North Shore, and partial proceeds from ticket sales benefited the Danny Did Foundation. Just as important as the money raised for the DDF is the awareness of epilepsy and of SUDEP that was advanced as well as the new relationships formed and the resulting network of people who now have the DDF and its mission on their radar. Great thanks to the participating schools: Evanston Township High School, St. Ignatius, Mt. Carmel, New Trier, St. Patrick, and Loyola Academy, as well as to Loyola coach Tom Livatino, Loyola athletic director Pat Mahoney, and the Loyola Academy administration for including the Danny Did Foundation in this event. Thanks also to Illinois High School Association referees Chuck McNellis and Jimmy Sheridan for donating their day’s salary to the DDF. And a special thank you to DDF friend John Scanlon, who glued it all together with custom warm-up tee shirts for the basketball teams and for the day’s referees. With the pizza and the gatorade and the basketballs and the kids and the ‘big guys’ scrapping and hustling on the court, it certainly was Danny’s kind of day . . . and we know that you were there, buddy. Keep leading our way!
